6 a.m.: the alarm goes off
The craft of floristry is a self-sacrificing profession. There’s no sleeping in—the day starts very early. And to say the least, the florist and their team don’t have time to get bored! They have to manage inventory, decorate the shop, and set up the displays, all so they can welcome customers as soon as the shop opens.
7 a.m.: Ready to receive the delivery
One of the most complex tasks in the florist’s trade is undoubtedly inventory management. Flowers, unfortunately, wilt quickly!
To do this, the florist maintains daily contact with one or more wholesalers, who supply the shop with fresh flowers throughout the week. It is common for florists to form very strong ties with growers in their region.

8 a.m.: Decorate the store, stock the shelves
If there’s one profession where interior design is essential, it’s that of the artisan florist. The space must attract customers through a harmonious blend of colors, tones, and scents. This is achieved through the arrangement of plants and bouquets as well as through decorative elements and the shop’s overall ambiance.
The frequency with which the shop is restyled varies by team, but florists like the space to feel lively! Customers should be able to discover different experiences and atmospheres depending on the season and new arrivals.
9 a.m.: The store opens and customers are welcomed
At 9 a.m., once everything is set up, the store is ready to welcome its first customers of the day!
This step is obviously one of the most important aspects of the profession, and the florist and his team take great pride in it. Customers don’t just go to the florist to buy a bouquet —they count on him to provide advice on arranging and caring for their flowers. It is in part this personal touch that sets buying from an artisan apart from buying at a big-box store.
As orders come in, the team creates bouquets for the store’s customers, adding their own touch of whimsy and showcasing their expertise in floral design.
1:00 p.m.: Order preparation and shipping
The number of customers at a flower shop is by no means limited to those in the store! You also have to manage orders placed through the online store and prepare arrangements requested by phone or email.
The team puts its expertise to work to ensure that bouquets, floral arrangements, and wreaths are ready when customers come to pick them up in-store or to have them delivered on time!
7:30 p.m.: An eventful end to the day
At the end of the day, the shop is about to close its doors to the public, but things are still bustling inside. We have to clean the shop and put the flowers and plants away to get everything ready for the next day.
This description of a florist's daily life was created in partnership with a professional artisan florist.
Although there are daily tasks common to all florists, it’s important to note that there’s no set routine in the store. Every customer and every bouquet is different, depending on the season, demand, and even the time of day.
Customer support is the true added value of a craftsman, and that’s exactly why we at Sessile strive to highlight it!
