When florists compete to show off their skills…

After giving you a detailed look at the daily life of a florist in detail, the Sessile editorial team invites you this week to discover what takes florists beyond their daily routines: major floral design competitions. Regional competitions, the Coupe de France, the Meilleur Ouvrier de France contest… We’ll tell you more!

Being a florist is a people-oriented and passionate profession—there’s no doubt about that. But it’s also a craft—and therefore a profession that requires skill! And many florists want to showcase their artistic sensibility and dexterity.

Regional Tournaments: Discovering Local Talent

To identify the region’s top talent in floral design, regional trade associations organize annual competitions. The program includes set challenges designed to demonstrate participants’ ability to work with plants while expressing their artistic sensibility. And as the icing on the cake, the top performers will have the opportunity to represent the region at the French Florists’ Cup.

We had also offered you a feature on the Île-de-France Cup, organized by the region’s Chamber of Florists.

The French Cup: Celebrating National Excellence

To recognize professional excellence and raise awareness of a craft that is all too often overlooked by the general public, the French Federation of Artisan Florists organizes the French Cup for Artisan Florists each year. Working on a set theme, participants must compete in seven challenges before a jury composed of their peers.

Last year, Dylan Décamp won the prize with an original and melancholic theme: “The Earth no longer exists….”

The World Cup: Representing French Tradition

After France, the world, of course. An extremely prestigious competition, the World Cup brings together florists from all corners of the globe in a celebration of floral cultures and traditions. France is often very well represented at the event, having cultivated a unique floral art form for generations—one that it has successfully preserved and refined.

The 2015 competition, held in Berlin, saw South Korean Alex Choi crowned the winner. As for the 2019 competition in Philadelphia, Australian Bart Hassam won the title.

The Golden Fiacre: Recognizing the Best Florist Business

This competition seeks not only to evaluate the quality of the products and the floristic expertise, but also to highlight excellence in the management of a flower shop. Social responsibility, commitment, employee recognition, shop decor… everything is scrutinized to assess a florist’s professionalism!

The contest is organized by SEMAEST in Tours and takes place every year in September. In fact, one of our partner florists, Gilles Sonnet in Dijon, was the proud winner of the contest in 2017!

The "Best Craftsman of France" Competition: The Elite of the Crafts World

We’re all familiar with the “One of the Best Craftsmen in France” competition, which awards the prestigious MOF title—as it’s known among insiders—especially in the culinary arts. However, florists also have their own competition, which aims to recognize the best professionals in the field of floral art. The title has been recognizing excellence in the practice of a craft profession since 1924.

In 2018, 5 florists received this highly prestigious award!

While these competitions recognize performance, at Sessile we believe that the best florist in the world is the one right in your neighborhood, who works with love and passion. What do you think?

While you're here… At Sessile, our daily goal is to showcase artisanal florists. If you'd like to buy a bouquet from your favorite artisanal florist—or simply learn more about the Sessile concept— come visit us!

    Who are we?

Sessile champions the independence of artisan florists online. Founded in 2019 by six friends, Sessile brings together 500 florists committed to transforming the industry and enables flower delivery throughout France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. By breaking away from the traditional online catalog model, the network highlights each florist’s expertise and helps keep the art of floristry alive. Florists can pursue their passion and create more creative bouquets because they have greater freedom to offer seasonal flowers and, whenever possible, locally sourced flowers.
