Christmas plants selected by your local florist

A Christmas plant is a gift that extends the holiday spirit beyond December 25. While a bouquet of cut flowers wilts within a week, a plant takes root: it stays in your home allwinter long—and sometimes well beyond. At Sessile, every Christmas plant we offer is hand-selected by a local artisan florist near you. Depending on their inspiration and the vibe you want your gift to convey, they’ll choose a poinsettia, a potted amaryllis, a cyclamen, a kalanchoe, or a small decorative fir tree. The result: a plant that’s been carefully chosen and prepared, rather than grabbed on the fly from a supermarket shelf.

Delivery of Christmas plants anywhere in France, to your loved ones and to you

Sending a Christmas plant through Sessile follows the same process as ordering a bouquet. You enter the delivery address, choose from among the artisans who deliver to that area, select your favorite plant, and then confirm the order. The artisan then packs it for shipping (potted plants travel better when carefully packaged) and arranges for in-person delivery to the recipient on the selected date. Our network covers all of France, allowing you to send a plant to a loved one who lives far away.

Pick up your Christmas plant for free at the store

In-store pickup is a great option for plants: you save on shipping costs, you get to see the plant before taking it home, and you can ask your florist for care instructions for the coming weeks. The process is the same as a standard delivery—only the final step is different: instead of waiting at home, you stop by your local florist. Click & collect is especially convenient when the plant is meant to decorate your own home for the holidays, or when you want to give it as a gift yourself.

Why give a Christmas plant instead of a bouquet?

A plant and a bouquet don’t tell the same story. A bouquet captures a moment: it lasts through the week, immediately catches the eye, then fades away after the holidays. A plant is a lasting gift: it continues to thrive long after the Christmas tree has been taken down, leaving a visible reminder of the gift andthe occasion. For Christmas, this takes on special meaning: the plant extends the festive atmosphere throughoutthe winter, often well beyond. It’s also a more economical gift in the long run, more eco-friendly, and—for certain varieties—one that can be replanted or kept from one year to the next. You can give it to your Christmas Eve hosts, to those you won’t see this Christmas, or to yourself to decorate your home during the holidays.

Which Christmas plants should you choose?

The poinsettia, also known as the Christmas star, remains the quintessential choice: its bright red leaves make it the visual symbol of the season. It is now available in white, pink, or variegated varieties for a more modern look. The potted amaryllis, with its large, spectacular blooms, offers exceptional flowering that lasts for several weeks. Cyclamen brings a fresh, light touch with its brightly colored flowers, perfect for the holidays. The Kalanchoe, more understated, blooms for a long time and requires very little care. A small decorated Christmas tree or a potted holly also make beautiful gifts—more natural and long-lasting. For those who prefer less traditional arrangements, hellebores (Christmas roses) offer understated elegance, with their flowers blooming in the middle of winter.

What is the significance of a Christmas plant?

Every plant given as a Christmas gift carries its own symbolic meaning. The poinsettia symbolizes simple and heartfelt celebration, based on a Mexican legend in which a poor child is said to have offered these red leaves to the baby Jesus. The amaryllis evokes pride and accomplishment, making it a fitting gift to mark the successful conclusion of the year. Holly represents protection and hope; its red berries remind us of life that persists despite winter. The fir tree, an evergreen, symbolizes continuity and an unbreakable bond. The cyclamen conveys tenderness and sincere affection. Giving a Christmas plant, therefore, means offering both a living thing and a lasting message—unlike a material gift that is quickly forgotten.

Caring for a Christmas Plant

Every plant has its own needs, but there are a few general rules to follow. Place the plant in a bright room, but away from direct sunlight and, above all, heat sources (radiators, fireplaces), which cause it to dry out quickly. Poinsettias are particularly sensitive to drafts and sudden temperature changes. Water sparingly: most Christmas plants do not tolerate excess water well, as it causes the roots to rot. Wait until the surface of the potting mix is dry before watering again. Amaryllis, which requires more water, benefits from regular watering during the blooming period. Cyclamen prefer to be watered from below (in the saucer) to prevent the center from rotting. With these simple steps, your Christmas plant will continue to brighten up your home long after the holidays are over.
