6 Tips for Photographing Your Flower Bouquets

Taking beautiful photos of your flower bouquets to post on your website is no easy task: you have to find the right angle, frame the shot properly, and make sure the lighting really brings out the beauty of your flowers.

This week, the Sessile editorial team is sharing 5 tips to help you improve the quality of your photos and boost sales for your online store.

This is a step that’s often overlooked due to a lack of time; however, taking great photos of your bouquets is essential if you want to sell them online. It goes without saying: since your online customers can’t touch or smell your bouquets, the photos are the only thing they have to go on.

A Nielsen study even showed that 63% of users prioritize photos over any other element on a website when shopping online! The higher the quality of your photos, the better your chances of increasing sales on your website.

Problem: Not everyone is a professional photographer! To help you improve the quality of your photos, we’ve put together 6 tips that should help you boost your online sales.

1/ Provide some context for your bouquets

It's tempting to cut out your flower arrangements and place them on a white background to avoid having to work on the background. But this method isn't the best way to put your potential customers at ease!

In fact, the setting helps put the bouquet in context and makes its proportions visible—for example, by placing it in a vase. This will allow your potential customers to estimate the size of the bouquet they’ll receive based on their budget and to better visualize themselves making the purchase.

2/ Display your bouquets

Along the same lines, we recommend that you take care in arranging your bouquets to tell their story.

Use a few accessories or decorative items that reflect your personal style to create your own visual world. That way, you can kill two birds with one stone by showcasing both your skill in arranging bouquets and your taste in decorating your shop.

3/ Fine-tune your framing

Framing your photos is an essential step.

To show off your flowers to their best advantage, we recommend framing them in a profile or three-quarter view, as shown in the examples below; this will make your bouquets look more attractive.

4/ Don't be afraid to zoom in

Feel free to zoom in when photographing your bouquets. This step will allow you to show potential customers the details of your bouquet, such as highlighting certain flowers that make it up.

This will allow you to highlight the quality of the flowers you've selected and give your potential customers a good idea of how fresh your inventory is!

5/ Add a personal touch

When customers walk into a flower shop, they’re not just looking to buy a bouquet! They’re also looking for a certain level of artisanal expertise.

Given that, why not add a human touch to your photos? Hands arranging or wrapping a bouquet will add a personal touch to your photos.

6/ Choose natural light over a flash!

One last tip—and by no means the least important: opt for natural lighting when taking photos.

The flash tends to distort the colors of your flowers. That's why we recommend taking your photos outdoors when the weather permits, or near a window—while being careful to avoid backlighting.

You can also add a few stone or wooden elements to give your photos a natural look.
